Pick A Card — January 18 New Moon in Capricorn
Welcome to your oracle message for the first new moon if the year!
New moons, new year, new you. You know what new moons invite you to do? Dream big. Embody the energy of who you are, what you uphold, and what you deserve in this life: love, abundance, freedom, peace, authenticity, sustainability, community, joy, presence.
There’s no better time than the first new moon of the year in Capricorn. Because you see, Capricorn doesn’t shy away from work and responsibility. Capricorn doesn’t want easy, meaningless wins. They want to build something foundational — something they can rely on. Something others can rely on, too. If your life was an empire, then Capricorn motivates you to build an empire for the history books — romanticize your life and inspire others they can do the same.
The energy of a new moon peaks for about two days and is a consideration for about two weeks — but not this one. This one is about laying down the emotional and spiritual groundwork for the remainder of the year and beyond.
What you’ll receive here is three oracle cards, each with their own unique message for your consideration and contemplation. But each of these cards has a 20+ minute tarot reading, using my new spread (As Above, So Below), and plenty of oracle cards to further clarify the messages. If you’d like full access to these readings, and all readings in the future, then consider joining The Tarot Circle — my members-only section for insight, clarity, and empowerment.

Card 44: The Hawk and Thistle
Graceful Persistence
The hawk is a keen and vigilant observer, so much so that “watchful” and “hawk-eyed” have become synonyms. An apex predator, the hawk glides gracefully on the wind, its sharp talons ever at the ready.
The thistle can thrive in a variety of environments, from verdant hills to rocky shores. Its spiked, stinging leaves protect its radiate flower, which perches like a crown upon its stem.
Right now, you can act fiercely while maintaining your grace and dignity. Sharpen your talons without losing your crown.
Additionally, external pressures may have weakened your resolve. Remember your worth and guard it closely.
This new moon in Capricorn, you’re being invited to view yourself as the Founder / CEO of your own life — and you know what bosses have to do? Make tough calls. Maintain your dignity while flexing your authority. Your crown has already been bought and paid for.
Ask yourself:
Am I too easily influenced by my environment?
How can I thrive in a difficult situation?

Card 39: The Otter and Cattail
Peace
The otter glides through the water with grace and fluidity. A beautiful sight to behold, the otter’s playful swim brings calm and joy to those who witness it. The cattail is a symbol of peace and prosperity — it can be used for a variety of domestic purposes, from basket weaving and bedding to home insulation.
When this card appears, you are entering a time of peace and tranquility. Enjoy it, allowing yourself to relax fully.
Alternatively, if you’re navigating a difficult time: remember that all discomfort is temporary. Limit your struggle by going with the internal flow. Turn onto your back from time to time, and let the current carry you forward.
With the New Moon in Capricorn, this card wants you to prioritize your peace. You cannot control the actions of others, but you can always control how you react within. If peace is a priority for you this year, what necessary steps must be taken to honor, uplift, and sustain that space?
Ask yourself:
Do I allow myself to enjoy peace when it finds me?
Am I struggling needlessly against a strong current?

Card 3: The Hare and Oak
New Opportunities
Hares are often symbols of fertility and love Associated with the Celtic goddess Eostre, they represent springtime — a season of birth and abundance. A variety of ancient cultures have linked the oak tree with bravery and vitality. In ancient Greece, the oak was revered as the tree sacred to Zeus; in Norse mythology, it represented the tree of life; and in ancient Celtic and Druidic cultures, the oak was associated with the god Dagda.
When this card appears, a celebration of good fortune is in order. If you have been in a caregiving role, this is a reminder that your sacrifice will be repaid.
Alternatively, themes of neglect or empty promises may be around you. Perhaps your hard work isn’t paying off in the manner you expected. Try connecting with the hare — a create of great energy and fruitfulness — to power through the difficult times ahead.
Every new moon is an opportunity to take a sincere assessment of our energy, and more importantly: our sustainability. Multiple deities are in support of you, so if you find yourself unfulfilled or drained by your current circumstances, where do you see yourself expanding this year? If it lives in your heart, it’s there for a reason. Don’t settle for less. It’s time to make some tough calls.
Ask yourself:
What can I celebrate today?
What exciting opportunities do I want to manifest?
