New Moon in Aries 2026: Oracle Cards and Astrology
Today is the New Moon in Aries (April 17, 2026), conjunct Chiron. There are seven planets in Aries right now, and that's a lot of energy moving through one sign.
Let's talk about what it means. Then pick an oracle card for the moment.
What does the New Moon in Aries mean?
Aries is the first breath of life. The first sign of the zodiac. A cardinal fire sign ruled by Mars, Aries is courageous, spirited, and ready for action.
Aries wants you to know who you are. Not the quiet and palatable version you may have been showing other people. Who you actually are. And it wants you to have the courage to do the things you actually want to do.
Aries rules the first house: the self. So any New Moon in Aries invites you to start fresh with your sense of identity. What are you initiating? What version of yourself are you becoming? What do you want to begin?
A New Moon is a beginning. A seed moment. An invitation to plant intentions for the lunar cycle ahead. When that New Moon lands in Aries, the invitation is about bold action, identity, and starting something real.
Seven Planets in Aries
Right now there are seven planets in Aries. That's a massive concentration of energy in a single sign.
When this many planets gather in one sign, the themes of that sign get amplified across every area of life. Aries rules identity, initiative, and self-assertion. So expect questions about who you are, what you stand for, and what you want to begin rising to the surface. For you and the people around you.
Everyone's individual and collective identity becomes illuminated. Now is not the time to twirl your thumbs thinking, thinking, thinking it through. It's time to commit. Take those bold steps. Begin already!
Chiron in Aries
Chiron is known as the wounded healer. Chiron has been moving through Aries since 2018, and today's New Moon is conjunct Chiron. The seed of new beginnings sits right next to the wound and the healing, all at once.
Chiron in Aries brushes up against self-worth, self-trust, self-esteem, and self-abandonment issues. It asks: what wounds do you carry around being yourself? Around taking up space? Around existing as you are?
Here's the complication. It's not always easy to know ourselves and be bold. Because if you really decide something, then that means you might have to stand for something. Chiron in Aries knows that tension intimately.
The wounded healer might have some messages for you right now. Curious...
Three Oracle Cards for the New Moon in Aries
As always, I randomly selected three oracle cards for this moment.
Take a breath. Let your eyes pass over the three cards. One of them will stop you. Maybe the image catches you, maybe the name does, maybe you just have a feeling.
That's your card. The card that stops you is the card that's meant for you.
No need to overthink this. Your intuition already knows.

Cauda Pavonis · Peacock’s Tail
Full Vision · The Spectrum · Inclusivity
The Peacock’s Tail is a sacred image in Alchemy. The mesmerizing display of tail feathers opens to mark the Alchemist having shifted from single to multi-perspective. This is a great achievement. The Alchemist has opened a thousand sets of eyes instead of one. They've discarded black-and-white thinking and allowed the full spectrum of colors, nuances, and solutions to come into the fold.
Creative solutions to complex social and political polarities can be found in this sacred space. The force field of possibilities has opened, and the Alchemist has entered a new paradigm belonging to multiplicity, dimensionality, and inclusion.
Utilize this perspective for positive change while it lasts. When falling back into black-and-white thinking (as any Alchemist will do), envision the splendor of the Peacock's Tail. Each feather contains a shimmering universe of possibility.
In this New Moon: Aries can get narrow. Bold action sometimes means tunnel vision. The Peacock's Tail invites something rarer: bold action with full spectrum vision. You can know who you are and still hold multiple perspectives about what that means.
Scintillae · Sparks of Light
Hope · Sensation · Exhilaration
The Scintillae card arrives just in the nick of time, leaving a trail of celestial light to guide the way. Follow these flickers as if they are alchemical clues, guiding you to an illumined state.
When this card appears, it’s likely there has been a lull or a void of direction in the Laboratory. Some may even say the lights have been turned off. But in the deep void of darkness, a messenger of hope arrives, flickering and shimmering with enthusiasm.
You might feel the Scintillae as a chicklike giddiness, the presence of magic, a vision in a dream, or a simple readiness to wake up from a long slumber. Follow the physical body; following the tingling sensations of aliveness within and you will not be led astray.
Vitality, clarity, and inspiration are within your reach. You are alive. You are a vital being. Appreciate the moment. One spark leads to the next.
In this New Moon: Aries is fire. The first spark. If Scintillae stopped you, the New Moon is lighting something small but insistent. Follow it. You don’t need to see the whole path. One spark leads to the next.
Argentum Vivum · Quicksilver
Slippery · Mobile · Mercury
Part liquid and part metal, Quicksilver (also known as Mercury) is a mesmerizing material. Its gift is to slip between worlds. It cannot be pinned down or easily defined. Mercury came to symbolize the god Hermes and the great Hermetic secrets of Alchemy, always sliding away into secrecy, just beyond our grasp.
It is said Mercury represents the transition between the physical and unseen worlds, between life and death, between science and the esoteric. It is the metal of sacred thresholds. Shamanic practitioners of every tradition must acquire the gift of Quicksilver to stand at the doorway between worlds.
This is no small feat. The Mercury card indicates you have a particular gift for such a task. This is the work of the shaman, teacher, sage, artist, and Alchemist. Heed the call of Quicksilver: the sacred threshold requires your attendance.
In this New Moon: This card sits at the Chiron threshold. The place where wound and gift meet. Aries asks you to be yourself, but selfhood in Aries is rarely simple. If Quicksilver is for you, you already know you're a threshold walker. The work is to stand in that doorway without running away.
